Dongyan Yun or Daoist Ninelotus is the chosen candidate to be the next Matriarch of the Dongyan Clan of Highwater Commandery. This was due to her being chosen directly by the Dongyan Clan's Forefather who holds absolute power in the clan. She was a disciple of the Black-White College.

When the Dongyan Clan found out about her relationship with Ji Ning, the Dongyan Forefather immediately arranged for her to be brought back to the clan. She was imprisoned in the Myriad Lotuses Cave by a Dao-heart illumination formation, the only way for her to pass through was for her to truly comprehend and understand her Dao-heart.
After nine years inside the cave, she learned that her true nature was of an ambitious person who likes to control everything around her. Although her feelings for Ji Ning were genuine to an extent they were propagated by her desire to control every aspect of her life; she felt that she could control Ji Ning so long as he didn't become a Celestial Immortal. This didn't mean that she thought ill of Ji Ning or attempted to harm him in any way. It was just that she wanted everything to be at a level that she could control, much like Ji Ning's Dao of wanting to be in control of his life. Naturally, Ji Ning's Dao is much grander than her's.

- She was once briefly Ji Ning's Dao-Companion. Broke up with Ji Ning in Book 10 Chapter 27.
- Ji Ning goes briefly to see her right before he enters terminal seclusion and perfects the Truesoul Everlasting technique. By then, she is no longer in love with him, and even comments that her Dao was perfected by getting over him.
